QUALITY TESTING

OUR IN-HOUSE LABORATORY TESTS

Given our quest for superior safety standards, our in-house testing facility works tirelessly to ensure that our products comply with stringent safety specifications. Products are continually and consistently tested to ensure our products exceed expectations in keeping our clients – and the end users, safe.

Please feel free to view some of the key in-house test result videos below.

HIGH PRESSURE TESTS

PURPOSE OF THE TEST

To simulate the failure of a hydraulic hose at high pressure and to demonstrate the protection offered by the protective sleeving against damage from a burst or pin hole. The protective sleeving is designed to prevent damage caused by the failure and to safely dissipate the kinetic energy of the hydraulic fluid in a controlled manner.

Webbing Products utilise two high pressure tests, burst and pin hole, to support the quality of their protective sleeving.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Webbing Products have specifically developed the textile protective sleeving range to be used in industrial hose applications and protection in the mining industry. It is therefore designed to meet stringent international standards.

FLAME RETARDANCY TEST

PURPOSE OF THE TEST

To show that our protective sleeving complies with the international standard, ISO 8030, for flame retardancy. Powerite Protective Sleeving self-extinguishes well within the 30-second requirement permitted in terms of the standard.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Our protective sleeving complies with MSHA (Mine Safety Health Administration) requirements. MSHA is administered and controlled by the USA Department of Labour and is a prerequisite for the supply of any product utilised in an American mining operation.

ANTISTATIC / ELECTRICAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST

PURPOSE OF THE TEST

To measure the electrical conductivity in the protective sleeving to ensure compliance with MSTC requirements for products used in underground mines.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

Our Powerite Protective Sleeving has been designed to fully comply with the MSTC specification and provides measurements at a fraction of the maximum resistance permitted in terms of international standard ISO 8031  which ensures our products prevent the build-up of static which could potentially result in a spark and ultimately, an underground fire.

TENSILE TESTING

PURPOSE OF THE TEST

To test the tensile strength and elongation of the webbing. The test utilises a video extensometer in conjunction with the tensile tester to measure the elongation or stretch of the webbing during the tensile test. Elongation can be measured to any point within the specified break strength, at rated break strength and at actual break.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

The majority of webbings produced by Webbing Products are safety critical and have specific tensile strengths as a key characteristic. These webbings are used in various applications which require stringent break strength criteria.

COLOUR SPECTROPHOTOMETER

PURPOSE OF THE TEST

To ensure colours are accurately duplicated within an agreed tolerance. The colour spectrophotometer is utilised to measure light intensity as a function of wavelength and provides an ability to determine the variance or Delta E between a colour master and subsequent production, thus ensuring continuity of colour.

BACKGROUND INFORMATION

It is not possible to perfectly match a textile product given the inherent variations within the materials utilised. Products are supplied to customers to a specific colour specification or through matching to a supplied sample. The spectrophotometer is utilised to determine the colour accuracy as well as to assist with future colour matching. The company utilises its dye house facility to provide products colour matched to the customers or industry standards.
